OhioHealth Land Use Study

The master plan for OhioHealth, recognized as one of the top five large health systems in America, provides a roadmap for future development. The plan identifies the best uses for both buildings housing the health systems programs and open land the system controls, both now and into the foreseeable future. Critical components of Healthy Urbanism™ guide the plan’s framework by focusing on the physical, social, economic, and environmental health of all real-estate holdings at or near this campus. We know the buildings where we live, work, learn and relax profoundly impact our health, well-being, and productivity; therefore, designing for Healthy Urbanism™ helps with that community connection. Incorporating a place to integrate health and wellness into daily routine, whether for the patient or their supporting family/friends or the staff is a means of providing care.

The plan looks to utilize the Hospital’s influence within the community in which it resides to create the framework and development platform that will make a walkable, mixed-use community for the immediate neighborhood surrounding the health system campus. This plan addresses the physical and social determinants that build healthy populations, such as access to healthy food, walkability, and healthy buildings. OhioHealth’s reach greatly influences and enhances the surrounding community by providing access to health and well-being for their staff of over 2,000 employees, their patients, and the surrounding community as they look to model a healthy lifestyle.
